In histories of the English seaside, Whitstable is hardly mentioned. Two artists have looked beyond beach-huts and shellfish, finding the town’s tougher side, in a rich industrial heritage. Saltworks, copperas, tarmacadam, clay – steam engines, windfarms, seaforts and estuary.

A guided walk by Dan Thompson will be accompanied by a series of objects made by Liz Lake. The walk will end with tea at Keith Brymer Jones’ Whitstable studio.

The walk will last for 1 – 1.5 hours and is mostly on level ground, with one footbridge to cross the railway.
